    Sammanfattning : Aim: The objective of this thesis was to find genes and chromosomal regions involved in neuroblastoma (NB) tumor progression. NB is a childhood tumor of the sympathetic nervous system that generally occurs spontaneously. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Apoptosis signaling in leukemia and lymphoma: understanding mechanisms of chemoresistance

    Författare :Astrid Ottosson Wadlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis (programmed cell death) is a basic physiological process, essential in the balance between life and death of cells of normal tissues in the body. Apoptosis can be considered as cellular “suicide” initiated by the cell itself when infected by a virus or transformed into a cancer cell. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanisms of apoptosis induced by a protein complex isolated from human milk : with focus on the role of mitochondria

    Författare :Camilla Köhler; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Human milk contains a protein complex comprising of a folding variant of human alpha-lactalbumin and oleic acid (C18:1). Both, a milk fraction containing this complex (MAL, for multimeric (alpha- lactalbumin). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria

    Författare :Anders Håkansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; nuclear uptake; caspases; mitochondria; S. pneumoniae; alpha-lactalbumin; milk; breast-feeding; Apoptosis; tumour cells; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. LÄS MER
