  1. 21. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Lukas Boge; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hexosome; antimicrobial peptide; cubosome; proteolysis; AMP; liquid crystalline nanoparticles; glycerol monooleate; Liquid crystals;

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within the health sector around the world. The demand for new efficient treatments is alarming in order to treat various bacterial infections in the near future. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of novel antibiotics that have gain more and more attraction the past decade. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Porphyrins and heme in microorganisms : Porphyrin content and its relation to phototherapy and antimicrobial treatments in vivo and in vitro

    Författare :Jonas Fyrestam; Conny Östman; Jonas Bergquist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Porphyrins; heme; phototherapy; antimicrobial resistance; singlet oxygen; photosensitizer; bacteria; HPLC-MS MS; oral bacteria; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Escherichia coli; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : One of the greatest threats to human health is increasing antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, and finding alternatives for treatment of bacterial infections is of highest importance together with a more controlled use of antibiotics. Porphyrins and heme have both been shown to be a promising class of compounds for inactivation of bacteria; porphyrins by their excellent properties to act as a photosensitizer, and heme by its importance as an iron source during a bacterial infection in vertebrates. 3. 23. Involvement of Rel and GATA transcription factors in the regulation of antimicrobial peptide gene expression in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Ulla-Maja Petersen; Himadri Pakrasi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insects posses a powerful immune system related to the innate immune reactions present in vertebrates. When insects are infected by bacteria or other microorganisms, a vast production of different antimicrobial peptides is activated. The expression of antimicrobial peptides is regulated at the level of transcription. LÄS MER

  4. 24. A strategy to identify novel antimicrobial compounds : a bioinformatics and HTS approach

    Författare :Sara Garbom; Hans Wolf-Watz; Dan Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Yersinia; T3SS; virulence associated genes; VagH; HemK PrmC; Release factors; small molecular inhibitors; HTS; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial infections are again becoming difficult to treat because the microbes are growing increasingly resistant to the antibiotics in use today. The need for novel antimicrobial compounds is urgent and to achieve this new targets are crucial. In this thesis we present a strategy for identification of such targets via a bioinformatics approach. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Effect of fruit flavors on anaerobic digestion : inhibitions and solutions

    Författare :Rachma Wikandari; Högskolan i Borås; []

    Sammanfattning : Fruits are among the most important commodities in global trading due to its fundamental nutritional values. In 2012, the fruits supply was 115 kg/person/year, however, only 50 % of the fruits reached their consumers and the rest ended up as waste during the long fruit supply chain. LÄS MER
