  1. 1. Studies of cellular pathogenesis in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis

    Författare :Judit Wefer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :EAE; MS; autoimmunity; DNA vaccine; antigen-specific therapies;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I have studied antigen-specific therapeutic interventions of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) and aimed to understand the respective roles of different cell subsets in initiation and perpetuation of disease. EAE is a commonly used animal model for the human disease Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a demyelinating disease mainly affecting young adults. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Exosomes : immunomodulators in cancer and therapy

    Författare :Stefanie Hiltbrunner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Exosomes are nano-sized membrane vesicles derived from the late endosomal compartment. They are capable of transferring proteins, lipids and RNA between cells. B cell and dendritic cell (DC)-derived exosomes express major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II, as well as costimulatory molecules (CD80/86) and can initiate T cell responses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. LOAd703 and beyond : Advancing immunostimulatory gene therapy for cancer

    Författare :Jessica Wenthe; Angelica S. Loskog; Marco Donia; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; Immunotherapy; Gene therapy; Oncolytic virus; Adenovirus; CAR T cells; Immune checkpoint inhibition; CD40L; 4-1BBL; IL-2;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decade, immunotherapy has come into the limelight of cancer treatments. Immunotherapy aims to stimulate the body’s own immune system to create or reinvigorate anti-tumor immune responses. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mechanisms underlying impaired humoral immunity in primary and chronic HIV-1 infection

    Författare :Kehmia Titanji; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1 infection; HIV-2 infection; B cells; primary HIV-1 infection; immune activation; hypergammaglobulinemia; long-term humoral immunity; antiretroviral therapy;

    Sammanfattning : B cells of HIV-1-infected patients have both phenotypic and functional dysfunctions which may be important in HIV-1 pathogenesis. Immune activation during HIV infection is an essential part of the body s defense against the virus, but may be the root cause of B cell dysfunctions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of T cells in health and disease : receptor usage and cytokine expression

    Författare :Eva Halapi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :T cell receptor; oligoclonal expansion Tumour-infiltrating Iymphocyte; Ovarian carcinoma; Interleukin 10; Multiple Myeloma; Systemic vasculitis; HLD DR0401*CDR3; HIV-I;

    Sammanfattning : T Iymphocytes are crucial components for the initiation and maintenance of an immune response. To identify and characterize different T cells and their antigen specific receptors has important bearing for the understanding of underlying mechanisms in immunopathological processes and also to allow for the design of therapeutic therapies to be used for modulation of immune responses.
