  1. 1. The Kluyveromyces lactis killer toxin is a transfer RNA endonuclease

    Författare :Jian Lu; Anders Byström; Leif Kirsebom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biology; K. lactis γ-toxin; tRNA endonuclease; modified nucleosides; 5-methoxycarbonylmethyl-2-thiouridine; 5-methylaminomethyl-2-thiouridine; anticodon stem loop; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Killer strains of the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis secrete a heterotrimeric protein toxin (zymocin) to inhibit the growth of sensitive yeasts. The cytotoxicity of zymocin resides in the γ subunit (γ-toxin), however the mechanism of cytotoxicity caused by γ-toxin was previously unknown. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational Methods for Calculation of Ligand-Receptor Binding Affinities Involving Protein and Nucleic Acid Complexes

    Författare :Martin Almlöf; Johan Åqvist; Chris Oostenbrink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Theoretical chemistry; computer simulations; molecular dynamics; linear interaction energy; binding free energy; linear response; protein-protein interactions; structure-based design; point mutations; hot spots; solvation free energy; Teoretisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The ability to accurately predict binding free energies from computer simulations is an invaluable resource in understanding biochemical processes and drug action. Several methods based on microscopic molecular dynamics simulations exist, and in this thesis the validation, application, and development of the linear interaction energy (LIE) method is presented. 3. 3. CopA and CopT: The Perfect RNA Couple

    Författare :Jacoba G. Slagter-Jäger; Gerhart Wagner; Wolfgang Nellen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; antisense RNA; plasmid; U-turn; four-way junction; RNA-RNA interaction; Hfq; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Antisense RNAs regulate gene expression in many bacterial systems. The best characterized examples are from prokaryotic accessory elements such as phages, plasmids and transposons. Many of these antisense RNAs have been identified as plasmid copy number regulators where they regulate the replication frequency of the plasmid by negative feedback. LÄS MER
