21. Antibody-based immunotherapy of cancer : From optimization to novel approaches
Sammanfattning : Antibody immunotherapy is a successful therapeutic approach to treat cancer. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate the mechanisms of antibody-based immunotherapies and the role of the tumor microenvironment in mediating the anti-tumor immune response, in order to aid the development of improved immunotherapies for cancer patients. 22. Antibody- and Peptide-based Immunotherapies : Proof-of-concept and safety considerations
Sammanfattning : The aim of cancer immunotherapy is to eradicate tumours by inducing a tumour-specific immune response. This thesis focuses on how antibodies and peptides can improve antigen presentation and the subsequent tumour-specific T cell response. Tumour recognition by the immune system can be promoted through delivery of antigen in the form of a vaccine. LÄS MER
23. Fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. Aspects on biology, treatment, and symptom evaluation
Sammanfattning : Background. Fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are prevalent clinical conditions of unknown aetiology with substantial comorbidity. The diagnoses are based on internationally established criteria. Women are more often affected. LÄS MER
24. Immune reconstitution after childhood leukemia. Aspects on immunizations and effects of Ara-C on the innate immune system
Sammanfattning : Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can be cured with cytotoxic chemotherapy, but myelosuppression and immunosuppression are major side effects causing morbidity and even mortality from infections. Vaccinations with diphtheria toxoid (DT), tetanus toxoid (TT) and protein conjugated Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) capsular polysaccharide were used to investigate the adaptive immune system in a controlled study of 31 children after treatment for ALL. 25. Role of collagen type II specific antibodies in arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting in destruction of cartilage and bone. The role of the B cells in RA pathogenesis clearly involves autoantibodies. Collagen type II (CII)-specific antibodies have been identified in RA synovium and synovial fluid. LÄS MER
