  1. 21. Antibodies for better or worse or Antibody variability in an egg-laying mammal and a novel strategy in the treatment of allergies

    Författare :Jeannette Johansson; Kjell-Olov Grönvik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Antibody; variability; platypus; allergy; vaccine; adjuvant; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molecular Immunology; molekylär immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Antibodies are a central part of the immune defense system, and a large variability in their specificity is needed in order to be able to react against all possible foreign substances we may encounter during our lives. In this thesis, results are presented from investigations into how an egg-laying mammal, the Australian duck-billed platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) creates antibody variability. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Development of a covalent site-specific antibody labeling strategy by the use of photoactivable Z domains

    Författare :Anna Konrad; Sophia Hober; Hjalmar Brismar; Patrik Samuelsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :antibody labeling; site-specific; covalent; SPPS; Z domain; BPA; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The joining of two molecular functions or the strategy of adding functions to proteins has been tremendously important for the development of proteins as tools in research and clinic. Depending on the intended application, there are a wide variety of functions that can be added to a proteins. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Studies on Potency and breadth of HIV-1, HIV-2 and SIV neutralizing antibody responses

    Författare :Gülsen Özkaya Sahin; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; HIV-2; SIV; envelope; neutralizing antibody; breadth; potency; IgG; IgA; complement; antibody-dependent complement-mediated inactivation; virus evolution; diversity; divergence;

    Sammanfattning : Even though the relative contribution of neutralizing antibodies (Nab) to prevent progression to AIDS during HIV-1 infection is still unclear, the induction of broadly NAb directed against HIV-1 through vaccination is considered to represent an important goal for the development of HIV-1 vaccines. Factors contributing to the induction of NAb may include the strength and duration of antigenic stimulation, the preservation of CD4+ T and B cells, the conformation of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex (Env), and the evolution of Env during infection. 4. 24. Recombinant Antibodies – Tools for building proteomic platforms

    Författare :Anna Säll; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibody development; recombinant scFv antibodies; phage display; affinity proteomics; mass spectrometry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, which is based on four original papers, covers different aspects of the evolvement and development of proteomic platforms and the construction of human synthetic antibody libraries for the isolation of antibody reagents has been very central. There is an accelerating need for technologies capable of providing proteomic analysis of high sensitivity with good accuracy and an overall broad coverage as well as for biomarker validation. 5. 25. Role of collagen type II specific antibodies in arthritis

    Författare :Estelle Bajtner; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serologi; transplantation; serology; Immunology; tolerance; collagen type II; CIA; B cell epitope; antibody; arthritis; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting in destruction of cartilage and bone. The role of the B cells in RA pathogenesis clearly involves autoantibodies. Collagen type II (CII)-specific antibodies have been identified in RA synovium and synovial fluid. LÄS MER
