1. Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Modeling of Antibiotics and Bacterial Drug Resistance
Sammanfattning : Exposure to antibiotics is an important factor influencing the development of bacterial resistance. In an era where very few new antibiotics are being developed, a strategy for the development of optimal dosing regimen and combination treatment that reduces the rate of resistance development and overcome existing resistance is of utmost importance. 2. Monitoring anti-infectives and antibiotic resistance genes : with focus on analytical method development, effects of antibiotics and national perspectives
Sammanfattning : Antibiotics are biologically active and are globally used in humans and animal medicine for treatment and in sub-therapeutic amounts as growth promoters in animal husbandry, aquaculture and agriculture. After excretion, inappropriate disposal and discharge from drug production facilities they enter into water bodies either as intact drugs, metabolites or transformed products. LÄS MER
3. Pharmacoepidemiology of Antibiotics, Weak Opioids and Statins with Special Reference to Socioeconomic Aspects - an Ecological Approach
Sammanfattning : The influence of socioeconomic factors on drug utilisation has been studied by pharmacoepidemiological analyses involving 1) drugs that are used to cure disease, such as antibiotics, 2) drugs that are used to alleviate symptoms, such as weak opioids, and 3) drugs that are used to prevent disease, such as statins. In a large Swedish city (Malmö), the utilisation of four major drug groups (ATC-groups A = alimentation, C = circulation, N = nervous system, and R = respiration) correlated positively with an unfavourable socioeconomic situation, most pronouncedly with group N and least so with group R. 4. Towards novel antibacterials : Synthesis and identification of natural product inspired inhibitors of Chlamydia trachomatis and development of chemical probes targeting virulence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance has evolved significantly to become one of the serious threats to public health today. Yet, the pipeline of new antibiotics is drying up and is lagging behind the challenging needs. LÄS MER
5. Protecting food with poison : Exploring ecotoxicity of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals
Sammanfattning : Chemicals are being emitted into the environment through human activities, such as agriculture or animal husbandry. Emissions can either occur intentionally, as pesticide application of crops, or inadvertently, such as pharmaceutical residues in wastewater effluents. LÄS MER
