6. Application of Passive DOAS using Scattered Sunlight for quantification of gas emissions from anthropogenic and volcanic sources
Sammanfattning : Monitoring of gas emissions from natural and anthropogenic sources is important due to the negative effects of these emissions on human health, atmospheric quality and ecosystems. Concern over air pollution has increased the need to develop measurement techniques suitable for gas flux determination. LÄS MER
7. Lake sediment as environmental archive : natural and anthropogenic influence on the chronology of trace elements
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is the historical pollution of some seldom-monitored trace elements (SMTEs; Ag, Be, Ga, In, Sb and Tl) that have been involuntarily released for several thousands of years but whose usage have increased during the industrial era. Sediment cores from four rural lakes in a south to north transect in central Sweden, and two urban lakes have been used as environmental archives for chronological studies. LÄS MER
8. Impacts of urbanisation on birds : Disentangling the effects of multiple pollutants on avian behaviour and physiology
Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic pollution is a pervasive feature of urbanisation, reaching into ecosystems worldwide and posing novel challenges to wildlife. Not surprisingly, differences in behaviour, and physiology, have been found between urban and rural populations. LÄS MER
9. The effects of exposure to microplastics and pollutants on the arthropod microbiome
Sammanfattning : Anthropogenic pollution is widespread across various ecosystems. This disturbance can alter the interaction between a host and its associated microbiome, with repercussions for hosts traits such as health, behavior, and host evolution. LÄS MER
10. Atmospheric Chemistry of Volatile Organic Compounds: Oxidation Products, Mechanisms and Secondary Organic Aerosol Formation
Sammanfattning : The results from this work are a piece in understanding the complex puzzle of atmospheric aerosol formation. Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed by the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the atmosphere is a key component of air pollution with a strong negative impact on human health and influence on climate, but its formation is poorly understood.
