16. Alpha-1-microglobulin: Innate defence against pathological oxidation
Sammanfattning : Oxidative stress has been implicated as an important factor in the progression of many diseases. An imbalance in the redox-system may cause oxidation of cells and molecules, which might subsequently lead to tissue damage. LÄS MER
17. Antithrombotic treatment of atrial fibrillation before and after the introduction of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOAC) in the Stockholm health care region
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and the major risk factor for thromboembolic stroke. Effective treatment with the oral anticoagulant (OAC) warfarin has been available for decades. However warfarin treatment is complicated, and demands dose adjustments and regular monitoring. LÄS MER
18. Receptor-mediated uterine effects of oxytocin and vasopressin
Sammanfattning : The neurohypophyseal hormones oxytocin and vasopressin are important in the regulation of uterine contractility. These hormones, as well as prostaglandin F2α, are most forceful myometrial tissue contractors. LÄS MER
19. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation
Sammanfattning : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis, there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 20. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER
