  1. 1. Bayesian Models for Multilingual Word Alignment

    Författare :Robert Östling; Mats Wirén; Ola Knutsson; Jörg Tiedemann; Sharon Goldwater; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; word alignment; parallel text; Bayesian models; MCMC; linguistic typology; sign language; annotation transfer; transfer learning; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore Bayesian models for word alignment, how they can be improved through joint annotation transfer, and how they can be extended to parallel texts in more than two languages. In addition to these general methodological developments, I apply the algorithms to problems from sign language research and linguistic typology. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Global functional association network inference and crosstalk analysis for pathway annotation

    Författare :Christoph Ogris; Erik Sonnhammer; Alfonso Valencia; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biological networks; genome wide functional association networks; global gene association networks; gene networks; protein networks; functional association; functional coupling; network biology pathway analysis; pathway annotation; pathway enrichment; network-based enrichment; enrichment; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : Cell functions are steered by complex interactions of gene products, like forming a temporary or stable complex, altering gene expression or catalyzing a reaction. Mapping these interactions is the key in understanding biological processes and therefore is the focus of numerous experiments and studies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Genomics and bioinformatics approaches to functional gene annotation

    Författare :Danielle Kemmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Biomedical research has been undergoing a quasi-revolution with the dawn of the genomics era. The flood of sequence data from the various genome projects, the task of cataloging the entire coding portion of a genome instead of identifying and characterizing individual genes, as well as technical demands accompanying these developments have posed great challenges to the research community. 5. 5. Genome-wide structural and functional protein characterization by ab initio protein structure prediction

    Författare :Lars Malmström; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; Saccharymyces cerevisiae; Ab initio protein structure prediction; Protein annotation;

    Sammanfattning : Very little is known about a considerable part of all proteins and it is time consuming and expensive to study each individual protein to determine its function, structure and cellular role. Proteins retain structural, functional and sequential characteristics from ancestral proteins and hence two proteins that share a common ancestor, i.e. LÄS MER
