  1. 1. Novel immunological mechanisms and factors in systemic lupus erythematosus-related cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Anna Cederholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Systemic lupus erythematosus; cardiovascular disease; atherosclerosis; atherothrombosis; antiphospholipid antibodies; Annexin A5;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a clinical syndrome of autoimmune origin. It manifests in diverse clinical and serological patterns and is considered to represent a prototype multisystemic autoimmune disease. The etiopathigenesis of SLE remains incompletely understood. 2. 2. Novel in vivo therapeutic approaches to Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection

    Författare :Ashmita Tontanahal; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EHEC; hemolytic uremic syndrome; Shiga toxin; extracellular vesicles; annexin A5; purinergic signaling; ATP; apyrase; IgG; EspP;

    Sammanfattning : Shiga toxin (Stx), the unique virulence factor released by enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC), associated with gastrointestinal infection and in severe cases hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Up until now, no effective therapies have been developed to control disease progression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development of a Sel-tag for multimodality imaging and studies of mammalian thioredoxin reductase 1

    Författare :Qing Cheng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Selenocysteine (Sec; U in one-letter code), the 21st amino acid existing in all selenoproteins, has unique biochemical properties due to its selenium atom, including a low pKa and a high reactivity with many electrophilic agents. When a selenoprotein is translated, the insertion of Sec occurs at a UGA codon, normally yielding translational termination. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Phospholipid related antigens and protective mechanisms : implications for cardiovascular diseases, human autoimmunity and inflammation

    Författare :Divya Thiagarajan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The pathogenesis of chronic inflammation, a common denominator in cardiovascular, metabolic and systemic autoimmune diseases, is influenced by a number of genetic, metabolic and immunological risk factors. Oxidation of cellular membranes and lipoproteins by reactive oxygen species generates a number of complex and distinct oxidized phospholipids (OxPL) thought to be involved in this pathogenesis. 5. 5. Novel immunologic cellular mechanisms in atherosclerosis and potential therapeutic implications

    Författare :M Mizanur Rahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis, an arterial ailment, is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which cause more than 17 million deaths each year and the number is expected to rise. In recent years atherosclerosis has been shown to be an inflammatory condition involving activated immunocompetent cells, including T-cells, macrophages and dendritic cells (DC), but the mechanism by which these cells are activated remains to be elucidated in detail.
