  1. 1. Conjugated Polymers, Amyloid Detection and Assembly of Biomolecular Nanowires

    Författare :Anna Herland; Olle Inganäs; Samuel I. Stupp; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Conjugated Polymers; Amyloid Fibrils; Nanowires; Self-Assembly; Sensor; Amyloid Detection; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The research field of conjugated polymers has grown due to the optical and electronic properties of the material, useful in applications such as solar cells and printed electronics, but also in biosensors and for interactions with biomolecules. In this thesis conjugated polymers have been used in two related topics; to detect conformational changes in proteins and to assemble the polymers with biomolecules into nanowires. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Organic Electronics and Microphysiological Systems to Interface, Monitor, and Model Biology

    Författare :Sebastian Buchmann; Anna Herland; Erica Zeglio; Agneta Richter-Dahlfors; Maria Asplund; KTH; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; organic bioelectronics; organic electrochemical transistors; conjugated polymers; microphysiological systems; in vitro cell models; Organisk bioelektronik; organiska elektrokemiska transistorer; Konjugerade polymerer; Mikrofysiologiska system; in vitro-modeller; Medicinsk teknologi; Medical Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Biological processes in the human body are regulated through complex and precise arrangements of cell structures and their interactions. In vivo models serve as the most accurate choice for biological studies to understand these processes. However, they are costly, time-consuming, and raise ethical issues. LÄS MER

    Författare :Alessandro Enrico; Göran Stemme; Frank Niklaus; Anna Herland; Jürgen Brugger; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Micro-electromechanical systems MEMS ; nanotechnology; nanowires; microfabrication; tissue engineering; crack-lithography; direct writing; femtosecond lasers; two-photon polymerization; 3D micromachining; cavitation molding; scalable optical patterning; 2D materials; surface structuring; bacterial-surface interaction.; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Light is the primary source of energy on our planet and has been a significant driver in the evolution of human society and technology. Light finds applications in two-dimensional (2D) photolithography and three-dimensional (3D) printing, where a pattern is transferred to a material of interest by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, and in laser scribing and cutting, where high power lasers are used to pattern the surface of objects or cut through the bulk of the material of interest. 4. 4. Recreating the microenvironment of the neurovascular unit

    Författare :Isabelle Matthiesen; Anna Herland; Thomas E. Winkler; Stéphanie Descroix; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microphysiological systems; neurovascular unit; induced pluripotent stem cells; extracellular matrix; hydrogels; in vitro models; mikrofysiologiska system; neurovaskulära enheten; inducerade pluripotenta stamceller; extracellulära matrisen; hydrogeler; in vitro modeller; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : The neurovascular unit (NVU) comprises the blood-brain-barrier (BBB) and its surrounding astrocytes, pericytes and neurons that are embedded in the extracellular matrix (ECM). As the main function of the BBB is to protect the brain from inlet of pathogens and toxins, the specialized endothelial cells that keep the barrier tight will also hinder the passage of pharmaceuticals. 5. 5. Cellulose-based Conducting 3D and 2D Composites for Applications in Plant Science and Responsive Systems

    Författare :Vasileios Oikonomou; Eleni Stavrinidou; Magnus Berggren; Anna Herland; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymers; cellulose; conjugated polymers; volume changes; plant growth substrates;

    Sammanfattning : Polymers (Greek: poly=many, meros=part) are large molecules made up of many small parts (monomers) in a repetitive way, as a term was introduced for the first time (1833) by the Swedish chemist, Jöns Jakob Berzelius. By the combination of different monomers, the resulting polymer can exhibit various properties, such as biodegradability, photosensitivity and electrical conductivity. LÄS MER
