  1. 11. Exploring Brain Gene Expression i Animal Models of Behaviour

    Författare :Julia Lindberg; Elena Jazin; Peter Saetre; Jonathan Flint; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; behavioural genetics; gene expression; brain; microarray analysis; domestication; animal model; haem; Canis familiaris; Vulpes vulpes; Mus musculus; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic basis for behavioural traits is largely unknown. The overall aim of this thesis was to find genes with importance for behavioural traits related to fear and anxiety. Microarray analysis was used to screen expression profiles of brain regions important for emotional behaviour in dogs, wolves, foxes and mice. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Early immunocastration of male pigs : effects on physiology, performance and behaviour

    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of prepubertal or early pubertal vaccination against GnRH using Improvac® (Pfizer Ltd.) on boar taint, reproductive organs, anabolic hormones, cytochrome P450 enzymes, performance and behaviour. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Animal transport and welfare with special emphasis on transport time and vibration

    Författare :Samuel Aradom Messmer; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Farm animals are transported several times during their lifetime and often long distances, and most of them are to slaughter. During transport they are exposed to a number of stress inducing factors. The main objective of the thesis work was to study the welfare of pigs, cows and bulls during transport from farm to abattoir. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Horse stables in the 21st century : aspects of management, behaviour and health

    Författare :Linda Kjellberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Housing horses in open barns is becoming increasingly popular, with positive effects on social interaction and free movement that can improve horse welfare. However, many horse owners are concerned that group housing may lead to more injuries, less lying time and obesity. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Sensing the worms : automated behaviour monitoring for detection of parasitism in grazing livestock

    Författare :Niclas Högberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) are common in grazing livestock and is a major cause of impaired health and productivity. Current control practices of GIN infections depend largely on the use of anthelmintic drugs. However, misuse of anthelmintic drugs has led to a widespread development of anthelmintic resistance.
