    Sammanfattning : Over the past half century, the focusing X-ray telescope has played a very prominent role in X-ray astronomy at the frontier of fundamental physics. The finer angular resolution and increased effective area have enabled more and more exciting discoveries and detailed studies of the high-energy universe, including the cosmic X-ray background (CXB) radiation, black holes in active galactic nuclei (AGN), galaxy clusters, supernova remnants, and so on.     Sammanfattning : A comprehensive near-threshold 4He(g,n) absolute cross section measurement has been performed at the high-resolution tagged-photon facility MAX-lab located in Lund, Sweden. The 20 < Eg < 45 MeV tagged photons (covering the Giant Dipole Resonance energy region) were directed towards a liquid 4He target, and knocked-out neutrons were detected in a pair of 60 cm x 60 cm vetoed NE213A liquid scintillator arrays.     Sammanfattning : This thesis describes in detail the observational procedures that we have followed and developed to analyze several research projects organized at Onsala since 1990 to study the regions of SiO maser emission at 43 GHz in the circumstellar envelopes of late-type stars with very high angular resolution. The compact nature of these SiO maser regions has been demonstrated in this work. LÄS MER
