  1. 11. Mortality in Oxygen-Dependent Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Possibilities for Pharmacological Interventions

    Författare :Magnus Ekström; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; mortality; survival; comorbidity; cardiovascular disease; cardiovascular drugs; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor; angiotensin receptor blocker; beta blocker; statin; aspirin; antiplatelet drug; gender; sex; oxygen-dependent; LTOT; trends; excess mortality; SMR; hypoxemia; hypoxia; hypoxaemic;

    Sammanfattning : Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major and rising cause of mortality worldwide, especially in women. Patients with chronic hypoxia owing to COPD are treated with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) but have high morbidity and mortality. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Atrial Fibrillation in the setting of Coronary Artery Disease : Risks and outcomes with different treatment options

    Författare :Gorav Batra; Jonas Oldgren; Gunnar Gislason; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; coronary artery disease; acute coronary syndrome; myocardial infarction; percutaneous coronary intervention; coronary artery bypass grafting; antithrombotic therapy; angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors; angiotensin II receptor blockers; epidemiology; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of mortality worldwide and atrial fibrillation (AF) is a prevalent arrhythmia associated with increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Despite improved outcome in both diseases, there is a need to further describe the prevalence, outcome and management of CAD in patients with concomitant AF. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Polyglandular Autoimmune (PGA) Syndromes and associations to sarcoidosis

    Författare :Konstantinos I Papadopoulos; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiotensin converting enzyme ACE ; DQB1; DRB1; HLA; H K ATPase; antigliadin; autoantibodies; pernicious anaemia; coeliac disease; sarcoidosis; Hashimoto thyroiditis; Graves disease; autoimmune thyroid disease; Addison s disease; Polyglandular autoimmune PGA syndromes; autoimmunity; ACE gene polymorphism; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Polyglandular Autoimmune (PGA) syndrome type II in idiopathic Addison's disease: In a retrospective study of idiopathic Ad-dison's disease (median age at diagnosis 32.5 years, range 8-62; median observation time 17 years, range 0.5-41), 50% met the criteria for PGA syndrome type II. In PGA syndrome type II, 73% had ATD and 41% had IDDM. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Cardiac effects of prolonged exercise

    Författare :Anders Sahlén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme; Exercise; Natriuretic Peptides; Troponin;

    Sammanfattning : Long-distance running is growing in popularity. While moderate exercise unquestionably gives major health benefits, the effects of extreme physical exhaustion on cardiac function have been studied less. It has previously been observed that elevated cardiac biomarkers may be observed after exercise, the significance of which is not known. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Sarcoidosis : inflammatory mechanisms and markers of activity

    Författare :Anders Planck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Sarcoidosis; HLA class II; T-lymphocytes; CD4-CD8 ratio; T cell receptor; angiotensin-converting enzyme; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : Sarcoidosis is a disease characterized by an accumulation of CD4+ T-lymphocytes in affected organs. Previous findings of an association between the HLA-allele DR17 and an accumulation in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of CD4+ T-lymphocytes expressing the T-cell receptor (TCR) V gene segment AV2S3, is in line with an aetiological hypothesis claiming that sarcoidosis is elicited by a specific antigen(s) in genetically predisposed individuals.
