  1. 1. Boundary integral methods for Stokes flow Quadrature techniques and fast Ewald methods

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Författare :Oana Marin; KTH.; [2012]
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary integral; Stokes flow; quadrature rule; Ewald decomposition;

    Sammanfattning : Fluid phenomena dominated by viscous effects can, in many cases, be modeled by the Stokes equations. The boundary integral form of the Stokes equations reduces the number of degrees of freedom in a numerical discretization by reformulating the three-dimensional problem to two-dimensional integral equations to be discretized over the boundaries of the domain. 2. 2. Simulation of individual cells in flow

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Författare :Lailai Zhu; KTH.; [2014]
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic interaction; swimming microorganisms; capsule; Stokes flow; finite element method; boundary integral method; general geometry Ewald method; spectral element method; viscoelastic fluid; cellular deformation; flow cytometry; cell sorting; microrheology; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 3. 3. Boundary layer streaks as a novel laminar flow control method

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Författare :Sohrab Sattarzadeh Shirvan; KTH.; [2016]
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layer stability; laminar to turbulent transition; laminar flow control; drag reduction; Tollmien-Schlichting waves; oblique waves; streaky boundary layers; miniature vortex generators; discrete suction;

    Sammanfattning : A novel laminar flow control based on generation of spanwise mean velocity gradients (SVG) in a flat plate boundary layer is investigated where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at; (i) generating stable and steady streamwise streaks in the boundary layer which set up spanwise gradients in the mean flow, and (ii) attenuating disturbance energy growth in the streaky boundary layers and hence delaying the onset of turbulence transition. 5. 5. On integral equation methods of solution to eddy current interaction problems

    Detta är en avhandling från Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Författare :Lars Larsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; T matrix; Boundary integral equation; Eddy current; Scattering; Nondestructive evaluation;

    Sammanfattning : The eddy current method is used for nondestructive evaluation of conducting materials. To achieve a greater knowledge and insure safe and reliable evaluation methods, the use of mathematical models and simulations are needed. LÄS MER
