Sammanfattning : Patients with idiopathic anal fistula (n=85) were compared with 215 control subjects, matched for age and sex, through a 180-item questionnaire. Obesity, smoking, constipation and bowel symptoms associated with IBS were more common in the patients. LÄS MER
2. Endosonography of the anal spincter in women with particular reference to obstetric sphincter tears
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the endosonographic morphology of the anal sphincter in women, to establish an endosonographic sphincter defect score and to relate it to anal incontinence and anal sphincter pressure. A further aim was to determine intra-observer and inter-observer agreement in detection of endosonographic anal sphincter defects. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence of anal incontinence (AI) in primiparous women five years after their first delivery; to investigate if an 8-12 hour time delay of primary repair affects AI at 1-year follow-up; to study the association between endoanal ultrasonography and anorectal manometry in relation to AI in primiparous women; to evaluate whether an endoanal ultrasonographic derived sphincter length-index correlates to subjective AI. METHODS: Primiparous women were prospectively followed with questionnaires before the pregnancy, at 5 and 9 months, and 5 years after the delivery. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Objective: To analyse the results of anal-sphincter repair; to examine the feasibility of motor latency measurements of the anal sphincter after magnetic sacral stimulation in healthy subjects, patients with a spinal cord injury and patients with faecal incontinence, using a new recording technique; to study, in the same 3 groups, the effects ofphasic magnetic sacral root stimulation on the anal sphincter and rectum; to describe normal, undisturbed anatomy of the anal canal and perianal structures in both men and nulliparous women using high-resolution phased array magnetic resonance imaging; to study pelvic floor movements in healthy volunteers of both sexes using a new instrument. Methods: Latencies were recorded with an intraanal, bipolar sponge electrode and an intrarectal ground electrode. Sammanfattning : Repair of obstetric perineal tears is one of the most frequent procedures in surgical practice. Despite repair such tears may result in anal and urinary incontinence and prolapses of the pelvic floor, problems in need of surgical repair later in life. LÄS MER
