  1. 16. Amyloid-β Protofibrils in Alzheimer´s Disease : Focus on Antibodies, Inflammation and Astrocytes

    Författare :Sofia Söllvander; Lars Lannfelt; Anna Erlandsson; Frida Ekholm-Pettersson; Linda Söderberg; Pär Gellerfors; Martin Hallbeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s Disease; Amyloid-beta; Protofibrils; ELISA; ELISpot; Astrocyte; Monoclonal Antibody; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Soluble amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregates, including Aβ protofibrils, play a central role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and constitute a potential diagnostic biomarker and a therapeutic target. Aβ protofibrils promote synapse dysfunction and neurodegeneration, but the mechanisms behind these effects remain unclear. LÄS MER

  2. 17. CRISPR/Cas9-based therapies and the role of astrocytes in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease

    Författare :Evangelos Konstantinidis; Martin Ingelsson; Anna Erlandsson; Vilmantas Giedraitis; Magnus Essand; Harald Steiner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson s disease; gene editing; CRISPR Cas9; amyloid-beta; astrocytes; neurons; iPSCs; electrophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) are the two most common neurodegenerative disorders. Whereas the AD brain features plaques of amyloid-beta (Aβ) and neurofibrillary tangles of tau, the PD brain is characterized by Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites containing α-synuclein (αSyn). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Fluorescent Probes and Protein Misfolding: Methods and Applications

    Författare :Irem Nasir; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein misfolding; fluorophores; filter-trap; site-specific fluorophore labeling; amyloid-beta; microscopic rate constants; solvatochromic probes; alpha-synuclein; lipid vesicles; nanoparticles; protein adsorption;

    Sammanfattning : Protein misfolding is a frequently occurring event in living cells and without the quality control, the consequences are disasterous. In this thesis, we studied protein misfolding in vitro by employing a variety of fluorophores, to either detect the highly ordered aggregates of intrinsically disordered proteins/peptides or slight misfolding of a natively folded protein. 4. 19. The role of glial cells in alpha-synuclein pathology : Focus on degradation, cell-to-cell propagation and inflammation

    Författare :Jinar Rostami; Anna Erlandsson; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Michael Heneka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Parkinson’s disease; alpha-synuclein; amyloid-beta; astrocytes; microglia; tunneling nanotubes; antigen presentation; T cells; glial crosstalk; degradation; KYP-2407; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Growing evidence emphasizes the role of astrocytes and microglia in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Yet, little is known about their impact on specific disease processes and if their involvement is beneficial or detrimental. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Preclinical PET imaging and therapy of Alzheimer's disease

    Författare :Silvio R. Meier; Stina Syvänen; Dag Sehlin; Greta Hultqvist; Matthias Brendel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; amyloid-beta; positron emission tomography PET ; bispecific antibody; BACE-1; TREM2; GFAP; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The main histopathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease are extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles, containing tau protein. Because of misfolded and aggregated proteins, activated microglia and astroglia react with a neuroinflammatory response, which may contribute to disease progression and severity. LÄS MER
