  2. 12. Modulation of serous salivary gland function by the sympathetic nervous system : a biochemical and ultrastructural study with special reference to β-adrenoceptor subtypes

    Författare :Roger Henriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Rat parotid gland; guinea-pig submandibular gland; ß-adrenoceptor subtypes; sympathetic denervation; sympathetic superstimulation; amylase secretion; cyclic AMP; ultrastructural stereology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present investigation was to study the influence of the sympathetic nervous system and of various adrenoceptor agents on enzyme secretion and morphology in rat parotid and guinea-pig submandibular glands. Biochemical methods were combined with electron microscopical techniques. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Psychobiological functioning in mid-adolescent girls and boys : Linkages to self reported stress, self-esteem and recurrent pain

    Författare :Lisa Folkesson Hellstadius; Petra Lindfors; Laura Ferrer-Wreder; Roger Persson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Adolescents; Cortisol; Alpha-amylase; Stress; Self-esteem; Recurrent pain; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Among adolescents, the day-to-day functioning of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal-axis (HPA-axis) and of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and their relationships with stress, subjective health complaints and psychological factors such as self-esteem, studied in naturalistic settings, have been largely unexplored. This thesis aimed to investigate the diurnal activity of the HPA-axis (Studies I & II) in terms of salivary cortisol and the ANS/SNS system (Study III) in terms of salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) in mid-adolescent girls and boys. 4. 14. Metabolic Engineering of Recombinant Protein Production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Zihe Liu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; recombinant protein production; genome sequencing; DNA microarray; insulin precursor; growth rate; UV mutation; yeast; anaerobic electron acceptor; secretory pathway; unfolded protein response; metabolic engineering; systems biology; α-amylase;

    Sammanfattning : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a widely used cell factory for the production of fuels, chemicals, and it also provides a platform for the production of many heterologous proteins of medical or industrial interest. In this thesis, random and rational approaches, such as vector design, host engineering, fermentation analysis, UV Mutation, coupled with high-throughput systems biology techniques (including whole genomic sequencing, microarray analysis and flux analysis) and integrated analysis (Reporter feature technique), were employed to engineer cellular properties more effectively and purposefully to construct cell factories for protein production. 5. 15. Enzyme Cold Adaptation through Evolution of Protein Flexibility

    Författare :Jaka Sočan; Johan Åqvist; Hugo Gutiérrez-de-Terán; Janez Mavri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; EVB; Empirical valence bond method; Pancreatic elastase; α-amylase; Enzyme catalysis; Enzyme evolution; Cold adaptation; Temperature dependence of catalytic rates; Psychrophilic enzyme; Molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Life Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : What lives, evolves. Macromolecular catalysis is a process, central to both evolutionary and metabolic aspect of life, as it provides a systematic bias favouring certain chemical processes. LÄS MER
