6. Characterization of nucleic acid delivery with fatty acid modified cell-penetrating peptide nanoparticle formulations
Sammanfattning : Recent advances with techniques used for manipulating gene expression have brought us to an era where various gene therapeutic approaches are becoming common therapeutic tools for many previously incurable diseases. The main factor impeding the wider translation of gene therapy is that the active pharmaceutical ingredients used for interfering with gene expression are based on nucleic acids and synthetic oligonucleotides and such molecules do not readily reach their intracellular targets due to their physicochemical properties and therefore they require delivery vectors to cross the cell membrane. 7. NMR studies on lipid-peptide co-aggregation between ganglioside-containing membranes and α-synuclein
Sammanfattning : This topic of this thesis is how the presence of biomembrane molecules affect the behavior of a protein related to Parkinson’s disease in a simplified (compared to in the cell) model system.Lipids are fat molecules that make up the biological barriers in our body that control transport of essential molecules in and out of the cell and create an environment where membrane proteins can perform their functions. 8. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems
Sammanfattning : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape. 9. Electrochemical Studies of Redox Properties and Diffusion in Self-Assembled Systems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis electron transfer reactions and diffusion of redox molecules in three different types of self-aggregated structures are investigated. Electrochemistry was used to investigate the redox potential and diffusion coefficients for redox active molecules with different polarity. The first aggregate system studied was the micellar phase. 10. Biophysical studies of membrane associated biomolecular interactions
Sammanfattning : Membrane associated interactions play important roles in various biological processes. The aim of this thesis is to study two types of membrane associated interactions by using biophysical methods, particularly NMR. First, the interaction of a targeting peptide and a receptor attached to membrane has been studied. LÄS MER
