  1. 1. Amphiphilic Peptide Interactions with Complex Biological Membranes : Effect of peptide properties on antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects

    Författare :Shalini Singh; Martin Malmsten; Per Hansson; Debora Berti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LPS; Antimicrobial; Peptide; Inflammation; Infections; Liposome; Binding; PEG; Farmaceutisk fysikalisk kemi; Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : With increasing problem of resistance development in bacteria against conventional antibiotics, as well as problems associated with diseases either triggered or enhanced by infection, there is an urgent need to identify new types of effective therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases and its consequences. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory peptides have attracted considerable interest as potential new antibiotics in this context. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biomimetic Formation of Calcium Phosphate Based Nanomaterials

    Författare :Wenxiao He; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; superstructure; lyotropic liquid crystal; self-assembly; Calcium phosphate; bone-like apatite; amphiphilic peptide; nanocomposite; biomimetic mineralization;

    Sammanfattning : The intercellular material in bone is a nanocomposite of aligned “hard” inorganics—calcium phosphate (CaP) platelets embedded in the long-range ordered “soft” organic collagen matrix. This elaborate structural arrangement redeems the weaknesses of the individual components (being soft protein or brittle mineral) and gives bone its excellent mechanical properties for the protection and support of our bodies. 3. 3. Functionalization and characterization of surface supported lipid membranes and their application in cell culture

    Författare :Dorota Thid; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cell - surface interaction; supported phospholipid bilayer; IKVAV; DHA; stem progenitor cells; neural cells; surface analytical techniques; QCM-D; surface functionalization; peptide; cell differentiation; cell attachment; membrane; fatty acid;

    Sammanfattning : Phospholipid bilayers supported on a solid surface constitute a versatile, biomimetic platform for a variety of applications, such as biosensing, drug delivery research, cell engineering and as cell membrane mimics in fundamental cell research. Phosphocholine supported lipid bilayers are resistant to cell attachment in a wide range of conditions, and can be functionalized with bioactive signaling molecules to promote specific interactions with cells. Författare :Karin Reijmar Brunnström; Katarina Edwards; Fredrik Höök; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotics have made a tremendous contribution to mankind. They are one of the most successful medicines in human history. However, more and more bacterial strains develop resistance and the risk to public health can hardly be overstated. New types of antibiotics are urgently needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Lipid-based liquid crystals as drug delivery vehicles for antimicrobial peptides

    Författare :Lukas Boge; Lovisa Ringstad; Martin Andersson; Chalmers University of Technology; []

    Sammanfattning : The development of antimicrobial resistance is a great challenge within health sectors worldwide. Thus, demand for new, efficient treatments is urgent in order to treat various bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a group of antibiotics that have gained more and more attraction in the past decade. LÄS MER
