11. Plant UDP-glucose Pyrophosphorylase : Function and Regulation
Sammanfattning : UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (UGPase) is an important enzyme of carbohydrate metabolism in all living organisms. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the function and regulation of plant UGP genes as well as the UGPase proteins. LÄS MER
12. Advances in Ligand Binding Predictions using Molecular Dynamics Simulations
Sammanfattning : Biochemical processes all involve associations and dissociations of chemical entities. Understanding these is of substantial importance for many modern pharmaceutical applications. In this thesis, longstanding problems with regard to ligand binding are treated with computational methods, applied to proteins of key pharmaceutical importance. LÄS MER
13. Beta-Lactamase in Haemophilus ducreyi: Purification, Characterization, and Mutagenesis
Sammanfattning : Chancroid caused by Haemophilus ducreyi, has been described as a significantly predisposing factor of HIV heterosexual transmission in an endemic region of both diseases. Antibiotic resistances are extensively found in H. ducreyi and many of the resistances are due to the presence of resistance plasmids. LÄS MER
14. Modulating Enzyme Functions by Semi-Rational Redesign and Chemical Modifications : A Study on Mu-class Glutathione Transferases
Sammanfattning : Today, enzymes are extensively used for many industrial applications, this includes bulk and fine-chemical synthesis, pharmaceuticals and consumer products. Though Nature has perfected enzymes for many millions of years, they seldom reach industrial performance targets. LÄS MER
15. Amino acid conjugation of fatty acids as a novel pathway in lipid metabolism
Sammanfattning : Peroxisomes are cell organelles that play an important role in the metabolism of a variety of lipids including very long chain fatty acids, dicarboxylic acids, bile acids, and xenobiotic carboxylic acids to name a few. To accomplish these tasks peroxisomes contain many proteins involved in lipid metabolism including members of the Type I acyl-CoA thioesterase/acyltransferase protein family. LÄS MER
