6. Biomarkers of aromatic isocyanates in exposed workers
Sammanfattning : The aromatic isocyanates, toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), are used in the production of polyurethane (PUR) foams, paints, elastomers and glues. The use of isocyanates is increasing, and exposure to isocyanates is the most common cause of occupational asthma. LÄS MER
7. Volatile organic compounds from microorganisms : identification and health effects
Sammanfattning : Damp building materials are subjected to degradation processes due to moisture and also microbial growth, with both of these giving rise to emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may contribute to indoor air health problems. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate emissions of reactive and non-reactive VOCs from damp building materials and from the microorganisms growing on them, and also to investigate the possible health impact of these compounds. 8. Isocyanates - assessment of human exposure
Sammanfattning : Isocyanates are used mainly for manufacturing of polyurethane (PUR) foams, lacquers, elastomers and glues. The production of PUR exceeds 2 million tonnes per year and is increasing. Occupational exposure to isocyanates are associated with respiratory disorders. LÄS MER
9. Transition Metal-Free O-, N- and S-Arylations with Diaryliodonium Salts
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the development of metal-free arylation procedures using diaryliodonium salts, a non-toxic and versatile electrophilic arylating reagent, with applications to synthesize biologically relevant targets. The first part describes a transition metal-free formal synthesis of phenoxazine with an O-functionalization of a certain phenol as a key step. 10. Mechanistic Studies on Ruthenium-Catalyzed Hydrogen Transfer Reactions
Sammanfattning : Mechanistic studies on three different ruthenium-based catalysts have been performed. The catalysts have in common that they have been employed in hydrogen transfer reactions involving alcohols and ketones, amines and imines or both. LÄS MER
