6. The cellular processing of the endocannabinoid anandamide and its pharmacological manipulation
Sammanfattning : Anandamide (arachidonoyl ethanolamide, AEA) and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG) exert most of their actions by binding to cannabinoid receptors. The effects of the endocannabinoids are short-lived due to rapid cellular accumulation and metabolism, for AEA, primarily by the enzymes fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH). LÄS MER
7. Endocannabinoid metabolism : the impact of inflammatory factors and pharmacological inhibitors
Sammanfattning : The endocannabinoid (eCB) system is an endogenous signaling system consisting of ligands (referred to as endocannabinoids, eCBs), receptors and metabolic enzymes. The eCB system is involved in homeostatic control of a variety of biological functions such as neuronal signaling, mood, appetite and pathological conditions such as pain, inflammation and tumour progression. 8. Anionic Graft Copolymers with Poly(ethylene oxide) Side-Chains; Synthesis, Solution Properties and Ion Conduction
Sammanfattning : The research underlaying this thesis involves synthesis and characterization of well-defined anionic graft copolymers carrying poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side-chains. Two different grafting techniques were used. Backbone polymers were prepared through radical terpolymerization of maleic anhydride, styrene and an additional comonomer. LÄS MER
9. Free Volume and Mesopores in Polymer Nanocomposites
Sammanfattning : The free volume in polymers is coupled to several important physical properties, such as density, viscosity and gas diffusivity. The physical properties of polymers close to a solid surface have been shown to be significantly perturbed as compared to their bulk state. LÄS MER
10. Characterization of folding dynamics and accelerated electron transfer in proteins
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis is divided in two: The first part is a study of the intracellular protein human copper zinc superoxide dismutase which has been associated with the fatale disease Amyotrophic lateral Selerosis (ALS). ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease of motor neurons, and in the cases where the disease is inheriled (fALS), roughly 15% is caused by mutations in human copper·zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD).
