  1. 6. Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies: Special focus on the role of serpins

    Författare :Henrietta Nielsen; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Serine protease inhibitors (Serpins) are involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative dementia, including the two most common types, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). The pathological characteristics of AD include senile plaques, mainly composed of aggregated amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta1-42), but also serpins, and neurofibrillary tangles of hyperphosphorylated tau protein. 2. 7. Properties of Endothelium and its Importance in Endogenous and Transplanted Islets of Langerhans

    Författare :Åsa Johansson; Per-Ola Carlsson; JanOve Sehlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; islet transplantation; endothelial cells; engraftment; beta cells; Diabetology; Diabetologi; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transplantation of insulin producing cells is currently the only cure for type 1 diabetes. However, even though the Edmonton protocol markedly increased the success rate of pancreatic islet transplantation, the long term insulin independence is still very poor. An adequate engraftment is critical for islet graft survival and function. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Role of Thrombospondin-1 in Endogenous and Transplanted Pancreatic Islets

    Författare :Johan Olerud; Per-Ola Carlsson; Nils Welsh; Leif Jansson; Thierry Berney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a severe life-long disease with a pronounced risk of developing secondary complications. One way to avoid the latter is to restore the fine tuning of blood glucose homeostasis by transplantation of pancreatic islets. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Serine protease inhibitors in the upper and lower airways

    Författare :Camilla Hollander; Enheten för kroniska inflammatoriska och degenerativa sjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; Neutrophils; audiology; Otorhinolaryngology; Medicin människa och djur ; AAT; Medicine human and vertebrates ; SLPI; cytokines chemokines; anti-proteases; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; Airway inflammation; Otorinolaryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteases and their inhibitors are implicated in the physiology and pathology of the airways. Protease inhibitors include those produced locally, such as secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI), and those produced mainly by the liver that can reach the airways via passive diffusion, such as alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT).
