  1. 21. Localization effects in ternary nitride semiconductors

    Författare :Vytautas Liuolia; Saulius Marcinkevicius; Toshiharu Saiki; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AlGaN; InGaN; AlInN; LEDs; near-field microscopy; carrier dynamics; alloy fluctuations; carrier localization; built-in electric field; nonpolar planes; polarized luminescence;

    Sammanfattning : InGaN based blue and near-ultraviolet light emitting diodes and laser diodes have been successfully commercialized for many applications such as general lighting, display backlighting and high density optical storage devices. Despite having a comparably high defect density, these devices are known for their efficient operation, which is attributed to localization in potential fluctuations preventing carriers from reaching the centers of nonradiative recombination. 2. 22. Localised corrosion and atmospheric corrosion of stainless steels

    Författare :Sukanya Hägg Mameng; Rachel Pettersson; Christopher Leygraf; Thomas Ladwein; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; localised corrosion; atmospheric corrosion; alloy composition; surface finish; surface roughness; surface treatment; surface orientation; contamination; chloride; sulphate; temperature; chlorination; exposure conditions.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This research is focused on defining limiting conditions for corrosion of stainless steels. The aim of the first part (Papers I-IV) was to understand the role of alloying level and environmental parameters on localised corrosion in aqueous conditions. LÄS MER

  3. 23. As-cast AZ91D Magnesium Alloy Properties- Effect of Microstructure and Temperature

    Författare :Hoda Dini; Anders Jarfors; Nils-Eric Andersson; Uta Klement; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnesium alloys; As-cast; AZ91D; Mechanical properties; Microstructural scale effect; Physical modelling;

    Sammanfattning : Magnesium and magnesium alloys are used in a wide variety of structural applications including automotive, aerospace, hand tools and electronic industries thanks to their light weight, high specific strength, adequate corrosion resistance and good castability. Al and Zn are the primary alloying elements in commercial Mg alloys and commonly used in automotive industries. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Minimisation of Chromium Leaching from Low-Alloy Electric Arc Furnace Slag by Mineral Modifications

    Författare :Ida Strandkvist; Fredrik Engström; Rainer Backman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; slag; leaching; minerals; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Iron and steel are produced continuously as a vital part of modern life. The largest by-product of metal production is slag. Slag is an essential part of the production of steel since, in the furnace, the molten slag removes impurities from the metal. When the slag which consists of oxides, solidifies minerals form. 5. 25. Bioaccessibility, corrosion and surface properties of metals, alloys and metallic powder in biological fluids of relevance for occupational and consumer health hazard assessment

    Författare :Xuying Wang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Yolanda S. Hedberg; Lars Nyborg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metal and alloy; metal release; synthetic biological fluids; surface oxide; corrosion resistance; hazard assessment; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : When assessing hazards of metals, alloys, and metal-containing items, the metal release (bioaccessibility) is of high importance. Triggered by increasingly stricter hazard classifications for metals, especially cobalt (Co), and limited knowledge, the aim of this doctoral thesis is to assess correlations between the metal/alloy surface characteristics, corrosion and metal release pattern in different simulated biological fluids relevant to human exposure scenarios (dermal, ingestion and inhalation, Papers I-V).
