11. Bacterioplankton in the Baltic Sea : influence of allochthonous organic matter and salinity
Sammanfattning : Climate change is expected to increase the precipitation ~30% in higher latitudes during the next century, increasing the land runoff via rivers to aquatic ecosystems. The Baltic Sea will receive higher river discharges, accompanied by larger input of allochthonous dissolved organic matter (DOM) from terrestrial ecosystems. LÄS MER
12. Carbon metabolism in clear-water and brown-water lakes
Sammanfattning : The trophic state of lakes is commonly defined by the concentration of nutrients in the water column. High nutrient concentrations generate high phytoplankton production, and lakes with low nutrient concentrations are considered low-productive. LÄS MER
13. Phytoplankton drivers in a marine system influenced by allochthonous organic matter – the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Climate change scenarios predict that seawater temperature and precipitation will increase in the Baltic Sea region during the next century. In the northern part of the Baltic Sea, increasing inflows of the terrestrial allochthonous dissolved organic matter (ADOM) are expected to be a major consequence of elevated rainfall, which can alter light and nutrient availability for phytoplankton. 14. Natural and human-induced carbon storage variability in seagrass meadows
Sammanfattning : Seagrasses are considered highly important CO2 sinks, with the capacity to store substantial quantities of organic carbon in the living biomass and sediments, and thereby acting as a buffer against climate change. In this thesis, I have studied carbon storage variability in temperate and tropical seagrass habitats and identified factors influencing this variation. LÄS MER
15. Bacterioplankton production and biomass in two lakes of different trophic status : Responses to inorganic nutrients, organic carbon, and other planktonic biota
Sammanfattning : Bacterioplankton growth is affected by physical, chemical, and biological factors. Theavailability of energy and carbon sources, as well as inorganic nutrients, are of specialinterest when studying regulation of heterotrophic bacterioplankton in lakes. LÄS MER
