16. Clinical studies on the role of eicosanoids in the asthmatic airway inflammation
Sammanfattning : The underlying mechanisms in the asthmatic airway inflammation involve the interaction between different cells and mediators that consequently result in different clinical phenotypes. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of inflammatory mediators, with emphasis on eicosanoids, on the inflammatory and functional airway responses under basal and triggered conditions in subjects with asthma, in particular ASA/NSAID-intolerant and allergic phenotypes. 17. Regulation of cytokine receptors and activity markers in eosinophilic inflammatory processes
Sammanfattning : The eosinophil is an important effector cell in allergic inflammation and asthma and an increased number of eosinophils and eosinophil-derived cytotoxic proteins have been found in blood and airways of allergic patients. The life cycle of the eosinophil starts with differentiation of bone marrow progenitor cells. LÄS MER
18. T cell antigen receptor usage, phenotype and cytokine production in human diseases
Sammanfattning : T lymphocytes are of critical importance for initiating and controlling immune responses, as the T cell receptor (TCR) for antigen allows a highly specific antigen recognition. Determination of TCR usage and characterization of T cell subsets in different diseases helps us understand the underlying immunopathogenic mechanisms, and may also lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches. 19. Oral contact allergy to carvone : with a focus on oral lichen
20. Extracellular Matrix Alterations in Patients with Different Phenotypes of Asthma
Sammanfattning : AbstractAsthma is a chronic disease that affects approximately 300 million people worldwide, and the prevalence is increasing. It has become clear that asthma is a highly heterogeneous disease, with overlapping symptoms but with diverse immunopathology and clinical phenotypes. LÄS MER
