1. All-Optical Switching with the Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the theory and applications of the nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). Novel methods to restore and filter optical data as well as generate high peak power optical pulses using the NOLM are demonstrated. LÄS MER
2. Optical Phase Conjugation and All-Optical Demultiplexing using Four-Wave Mixing in Dispersion Shifted Fibers
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with two applications of four-wave mixing in optical dispersion-shifted fibers; optical phase conjugation and all-optical switching. The work is a part of an effort to study the upgradability of the existing fiber plant, which is of large economic interest. LÄS MER
3. ALL-OPTICAL CONTROL OF MOLECULAR FUNCTIONS - ENERGY TRANSFER SWITCHING AND INFORMATION PROCESSING
Sammanfattning : In this work, the photoswitching of molecular systems endowed with photochromic functionality have been investigated for the reversible photonic gating of excitation energy transfer (FRET) reactions as well as in application for all-photonic molecular logic. The presented systems involves the integration of photochromic entities within both covalent and non-covalent designs and serves to implicate photonic switching of molecular level phenomena. LÄS MER
4. The interaction of light and magnetism in the TbxCo100-x system
Sammanfattning : Development of the faster and denser magnetic memory storage elements has been an active area of research since early 20th century. The path of research on magnetization manipulation began with firstly changing the magnetization state of a medium in an external magnetic field, then heating of a medium and magnetizing with a permanent magnet was explored, while the latest efforts have been focused on switching the magnetization only by a polarized laser light. 5. Design, analysis and simultion for optical access and wide-area networks
Sammanfattning : Due to the tremendous growth of traffic volume caused by both exponential increase of number of Internet users and continual emergence of new bandwidth demanding applications, high capacity networks are required in order to satisfactorily handle the extremely large amount of traffic. Hence, optical fiber communication is the key technology for the network infrastructure. LÄS MER
