  1. 1. Role of phagotrophy in freshwater phytoplankton

    Författare :Carina Pålsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecology; marine biology; limnology; mixotrophy; phagotrophy; phytoplankton; oligotrophic; clear-water lakes; grazing; competition; nutrient enrichment; autotrophy; heterotrophy; bacterial ingestion; Hydrobiology; Marinbiologi; akvatisk ekologi; limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Some phytoplankton have the ability to combine phototrophy and heterotrophy within the same individual, which is called mixotrophy. In this thesis, I adress mixotrophy and competitive interactions of mixotrophs and obligate auto- or heterotrophs in relation to the availability of nutrients, light and prey. LÄS MER

  2. 2. EPR Studies of Ruthenium-Manganese Complexes as Biomimetic Models for Photosystem II - Approaching Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Ping Huang; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; WOC; bridging-mode modification; water oxidation; EPR; Ru-Mn complexes; PSII; Artificial Photosynthesis; D donor -S sensitizer -A acceptor molecular module; High Mn valence states.; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : In natural photosynthesis, solar energy is converted to chemical energy by photosynthetic reaction centers. In green plants and algae, Photosystem II (PSII) and Photosystem I (PSI) absorb light and utilize the charge separation reactions to convert solar energy to chemical energy. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Electron Donor Systems in Natural and Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Ann Magnuson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solar energy; artificial photosynthesis; Photosystem II; EPR; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the process by which light energy is converted into chemical products, in photoautotrophic bacteria, algae and plants. The principal idea is the production of reducing agents by photo-induced oxidation of a sacrificial electron donor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mimicking Photosystem II with Manganese Model Complexes to Approach Artificial Photosynthesis

    Författare :Joakim Högblom; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Hydrogen; EPR; Cobalt; Biokemi; metabolism; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The work in thesis aims for artificial photosyntesis, which could and will mimic natural photosynthesis, the process that uses light to create energy rich compounds from H2O and CO2. Water is oxidized in Photosystem II (PSII) by the Water Oxidizing Complex (WOC), which is a catalytic site on the lumenal side of the thylakoid membrane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Violaxanthin De-epoxidase and the Xanthophyll Cycle

    Författare :Anna Gisselsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; zeaxanthin.; xanthophyll cycle; violaxanthin de-epoxidse; thylakoid; regulation; quenching; protonation; pH-dependence; light stress; histidine; Conformational change; domains; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The xanthophyll cycle is a mechanism for short term adaptation of plants to varying light intensities. It involves a reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin, via the intermediate antheraxanthin, upon high light intensities. LÄS MER
