  1. 1. Trees, Queues and Alcohols

    Författare :Per Sillrén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Raman Scattering; Neutron Diffraction; Alcohols; EPSR; Quasi Elastic Neutron Scattering; Neutron Spin Echo; Monte Carlo Simulation; Hydrogen Bonded Liquids;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrogen bonded (H-bonded) materials, such as water, alcohols, sugars, and even DNA, are extremely important for biology, as well as chemical industry. Alcohols are used as solvents in paints, in perfumes, as cleaners, anti-freezers, or as an alternative to petrol in combustion engines. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Direct Catalytic Nucleophilic Substitution of Non-Derivatized Alcohols

    Författare :Anon Bunrit; Joseph Samec; Joseph Moran; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nucleophilic substitution; catalysis; alcohols; stereospecific; Lewis acid; Brønsted acid base; bifunctional; heterocycles; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of methods for the activation of the hydroxyl group in non-derivatized alcohols in substitution reactions. The thesis is divided into two parts, describing three different catalytic systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric transformations of alcohols

    Författare :Michaela Edin; Jan-E. Bäckvall; Manfred T. Reetz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ruthenium; lipase; catalysis; alcohols; diols; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The major part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure alcohols and diols by combining ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions that lead to racemization or epimerization and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric trans-formations in one-pot.A mechanistic study of the unexpected facile formation of meso-diacetate products found in enzyme-catalyzed acetylations of alkanediols with Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was first performed. 5. 5. Catalytic conversion of syngas to higher alcohols over MoS2-based catalysts

    Författare :Robert Andersson; Magali Boutonnet; Sven Järås; Anders Holmen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conversion; higher alcohols; mixed alcohols; MoS2; syngas; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis concerns catalytic conversion of syngas (H2+ CO) into a blend of methanol and higher alcohols, an attractive way of producing fuels and chemicals. This route has the potential to reduce the oil dependence in the transport sector and, with the use of biomass for the syngas generation, produce CO2-neutral fuels. LÄS MER
