  1. 1. Amino acid transport and receptor binding properties in neuropsychiatric disorders using the fibroblast cell model

    Författare :Jessica Johansson; Nikolaos Venizelos; Lars Oreland; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Fibroblasts; Bipolar disorder; ADHD; Tyrosine; Tryptophan; Alanine; Transport; mAChRs; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Altered transport of the catecholamines and serotonin precursor amino acids tyrosine and tryptophan, might be one explanation for the dysfunctional neurotransmission implicated in the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In previous studies, an altered amino acid transport has been found in schizophrenia and autism, when using the fibroblast cell model. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Oscillatory Ca2+ signaling in glucose-stimulated murine pancreatic β-cells : Modulation by amino acids, glucagon, caffeine and ryanodine

    Författare :Meftun Ahmed; Per Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; pancreatic β-cells; islets of Langerhans; glucose; Ca2 oscillations; Ca2 transients; potassium; ryanodine; caffeine; glucagon; cAMP; inositol 1; 4; 5-trisphosphate; fura-2; glycine; alanine; arginine; Ca2 channels; rats; lean mice; ob ob mice; leptin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Oscillations in cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) is the key signal in glucose-stimulated β-cells governing pulsatile insulin release. The glucose response of mouse β-cells is often manifested as slow oscillations and rapid transients of [Ca2+] i. LÄS MER

  3. 3. β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA)-induced neurotoxicity : Studies in vitro and in vivo

    Författare :Lisa Ersson; Malin Andersson; Eva B Brittebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; BMAA; neurotoxin; neurodegeneration; cellular transport; metabolic profiling; protein-association; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxic non-proteinogenic amino acid produced naturally by cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates and it has been detected in samples from fresh and marine water from all over the world. It can bioaccumulate in fish and shellfish, and has a potential to biomagnify in a terrestrial food chain. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) : Sources, bioaccumulation and extraction procedures

    Författare :Sandra Ferreira Lage; Sara Rydberg; Ulla Rasmussen; Hanna Mazur-Marzec; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : β-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) is a neurotoxin linked to neurodegeneration, which is manifested in the devastating human diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. This neurotoxin is known to be produced by almost all tested species within the cyanobacterial phylum including free living as well as the symbiotic strains. LÄS MER

  5. 5. β-alanine synthase : one reaction, two folds and mechanisms

    Författare :Stina Lundgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : beta-alanine synthase (betaAS) is the third enzyme in the reductive pyrimidine catabolic pathway which is responsible for the breakdown of pyrimidine bases, including several anti-cancer drugs in higher organisms. We have solved the high resolution structures of two beta-alanine synthases that perform the same reaction but have two very different folds and utilize different reaction mechanisms. LÄS MER
