  1. 21. Neurotrophins and nitric oxide in relation to airway responses in experimental asthma in vivo

    Författare :Lydia Bennedich Kahn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma is an inflammatory disease of allergic or non-allergic genesis characterized by intermittent reversible airway obstruction and variable degrees of persistent airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). Increase in AHR likely arises from augmented airway inflammation, such as associated with a late airway response. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Airway smooth muscle as a target in asthma : new insights into bronchorelaxation and hyperreactivity

    Författare :Martijn Manson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with asthma suffer from reversible airway obstruction accompanied by airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). Airway smooth muscle (ASM) is central to bronchoconstriction and AHR and is therefore the target of existing and potential new therapies for asthma. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Quality of life and markers of inflammation : a study of asthma in primary care

    Författare :Per Olof Ehrs; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Mild Asthma; primary care; quality of life; airway inflammation; bronchial responsiveness; fluticasone.;

    Sammanfattning : Asthma is a chronic disease that usually is diagnosed and treated in primary care. Most patients have a mild to moderate disease. Asthma is considered to be caused by inflammation of the airways. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The contribution of eosinophils and mediators in allergic inflammation

    Författare :Annika Roquet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :allergic inflammation; eosinophils; bronchial hyperresponsiveness; histamine; leukotrienes; antihistamine; leukotriene-antagonist; low-dose challenge;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present work was to investigate the development of allergic inflammation. For this purpose human experimental challenge models in skin, nose and bronchi were used as well as pharmacological interventions. A variety of inflammatory cells and mediators have been suggested as important in the pathogenesis of allergic inflammation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. An experimental study of mediators in allergic bronchoconstriction with focus on eicosanoids

    Författare :Ewa Selg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Leukotrienes; prostaglandins; histamine; guinea pig lung; ovalbumin; mast cell; cyclooxygenase; airway smooth muscle; COX inhibitors; NSAIDs;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells have a central role in the inflammatory response in airways of both atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. The mast cell-derived mediators such as histamine, leukotriene C4 and prostaglandin D2, released upon activation of the cell, produce acute bronchoconstriction that is characteristic of the early asthmatic response (EAR), and contribute to the development of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness following the initial reaction.
