  1. 1. Charting the human lung with inhaled nanoparticles : Development of AiDA - a new diagnostic technique for respiratory disease

    Författare :Jonas Jakobsson; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Nyckelord :Aerosol; lung; lung deposition; respiratory tract; nanoparticles; ultrafine particles; airspace dimension assessment; AiDA; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; COPD; lung morphology;

    Sammanfattning : Changes to the smallest structures of the distal lung are often the first sign of severe respiratory disease, but to date methods to detect and quantify these changes are limited. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is currently estimated to be the third most common cause of death worldwide, but is to a large extent under-diagnosed, especially at early stages. 2. 2. Measuring distal airspace dimensions with nanoparticles. Initial development of a diagnostic method

    Författare :H Laura Aaltonen; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nanoparticles; COPD; AiDA; biomarker;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) consists of emphysema and bronchial disease. The pulmonary function tests currently used to diagnose COPD have poor sensitivity for early disease. This may delay diagnosis and lead to a poorer prognosis compared to establishing the diagnosis at an earlier stage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structure of the distal lung studied with inhaled nanoparticles

    Författare :Madeleine Petersson Sjögren; Metalund; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Techniques able to detect impairments in the distal human lung are lacking. Since inhaled nanoparticles are predominantly deposited in the acini, their deposition can be used to derive structural properties of the region. Intheory, structural enlargements in the distal lung imply that less inhaled nanoparticles deposit there. LÄS MER
