16. Impacts of Active Transport on Health : with a focus on physical activity, air pollution, and cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : Background: There are increasing number of health impact assessment studies investigating the health effects by transferring trips made by motorised transport to active commuting; however, air pollution exposure during active commuting and its impact on health has been less thoroughly assessed. It is furthermore uncertain whether there is any interaction effect between air pollution and physical activity for the risk of cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER
17. Causes and Consequences of Early-life Conditions : Alcohol, Pollution and Parental Leave Policies
Sammanfattning : Essay I: This paper studies the effect of air pollution on infant health in Sweden. Combining register panel data on birth outcomes and family characteristics with pollution data, I estimate the effect of particulate matter (PM10) on several birth outcomes that previously have been shown to be predictive of future outcomes. 18. Quantification of population exposure and health impacts associated with air pollution
Sammanfattning : There is substantial evidence that air pollution, in particular particulate matter (PM), affects our health. The overall objective of this thesis is to understand and quantify population exposure to ambient air pollution and related health impacts. LÄS MER
19. Interaction of genetic susceptibility and traffic-related air pollution in cardiovascular disease
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed at investigating gene-environment interaction in cardiovascular disease (CVD). A study population of 618 coronary heart disease (CHD) cases (of which 192 first-time acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients) and 3614 randomly selected population controls was genotyped for genetic variants in genes coding for nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and glutathione s-transferase (GST). 20. Short-term and Long-term Exposure to Air pollution and Stroke risk
Sammanfattning : Background: Stroke is a major cause of mortality and morbidity across the world. Air pollution has become an acknowledged risk factor for stroke, especially for acute effects. There is less support for effects by chronic exposure due to the methodological challenges inherent in such studies. LÄS MER
