  1. 1. Pharmacogenetic analysis in sickness and in health - for better or for worse

    Författare :Mia Wadelius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Pharmacogenetics; NAT2; CYP2D6; CYP2C19; CYP17; GSTP1; sulphasalazine; agranulocytosis; prostate cancer; pregnancy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : An individual's pharmacogenetic constitution may predict response to drugs, hormones and toxins, and might be a susceptibility factor for disease. Pharmacogenetic diversity is especially pronounced for drug metabolising enzymes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions : Possibilities and limitations

    Författare :Martin Bäckström; Tom Mjörndal; Rune Dahlqvist; Folke Sjökvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; adverse drug reactions; spontaneous reporting; metamizole; general practitioners; hospital physicians; under-reporting; economical inducement; nurses.; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; Clinical Pharmacology; klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a major problem in society and in drug therapy. They are a common cause of short-term hospitalization, prolonged hospitalization and death. Spontaneous reporting of ADRs remains one the most effective methods for detecting new and serious drug reactions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Kostmann syndrome : a clinical and pathophysiological study

    Författare :Göran Carlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Kostmann syndrome; severe congenital neutropenia; autosomal recessive; periodontitis; antibacterial peptides; LL-3 7; apoptosis; Bcl-2; granulocyte colony-stimulating factor; glycosylation; lenograstim; filgrastim.;

    Sammanfattning : Kostmann syndrome or severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is a rare disease, usually diagnosed during the first months of life, characterized by extremely low levels of neutrophils in the peripheral blood, a maturational arrest of the myelopoiesis in the bone marrow and severe bacterial infections. The purpose of this project was to improve the understanding of the clinical course and the pathophysiology of autosomal recessive SCN. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Infective Endocarditis : aspects of pathophysiology, epidemiology, management and prognosis

    Författare :Christer Ekdahl; Rolf Maller; Mats Broqvist; Urban Forsum; Lennart E. Nilsson; Rune Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; Infective endocarditis IE ; heart valve surgery; monocytes; granulocytes; staphylococ; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare but complex disease that is fatal if untreated. With a modern combination of antimicrobial therapy and heart valve surgery, mortality is still 10-20 %. The structure of the endocarditis vegetation impedes the penetration of phagocytic cells such as monocytes and granulocytes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mode of action of asenapine vs. other antipsychotic drugs : an experimental analysis

    Författare :Olivia Frånberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Antipsychotic drugs (APDs) are used in the treatment of schizophrenia and manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. Generally, the so-called atypical APDs, such as clozapine, may in contrast to typical APDs improve not only positive, but also negative symptoms and some aspects of cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia.
