  1. 1. Nitrous oxide and methane emissions from storage and land application of organic fertilisers : with the focus on sewage sludge

    Författare :Agnes Willén; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Organic fertiliser handling contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Through storage and field experiments, this thesis examined strategies to reduce emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) from storage and after land application of cattle slurry (CS) and sewage sludge (SS). 2. 2. Suicidal behaviour in children and adolescents in Sweden and some European countries : epidemiological and clinical aspects

    Författare :Agnes Hultén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :young people; suicide; attempted suicide; trends; covariation; repetition patterns; care;

    Sammanfattning : The starting point for this thesis is the empirical observation that in Sweden, as in many other European countries, suicide is the leading cause of death among men aged 15-34 and ranks second for young females. Attempted suicide also constitutes a major public-health problem both in Sweden and in the rest of Europe. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Institutional Impediments and Reluctant Actors – The Limited Role of Democracy Aid in Democratic Development

    Författare :Agnes Cornell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; authoritarian regimes; Bolivia; democracy aid; democratic governance; democratic survival; democratization; democracy; foreign aid; Peru; public administration; regime change; staff turnover;

    Sammanfattning : Poverty reduction and societal modernization have traditionally been the main goals for development aid but increasingly, since the early 1990s, democracy and human rights have ascended in importance and democracy aid has been growing steadily, both in total amounts and as a share of the total aid package. This dissertation contributes to the understanding of the role of democracy aid in democratic development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Origins and Adaptation in Humans : A Case Study of Taste and Lifestyle

    Författare :Agnès E. Sjöstrand; Mattias Jakobsson; Evelyne Heyer; Michael G. B. Blum; David Comas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolutionary Genetics; Evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I use population genetics and statistical approaches to investigate early human demography, infer local adaptation in diverse sets of populations, and study the genetic basis for taste perception.In the first paper, I examine the genomic evidence for a severe bottleneck, which has been suggested based on paleontological and climate studies to coincide with the emergence of anatomically modern humans. Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the topic of grounding in human-robot interaction, that is, the process by which the human and robot can ensure mutual understanding. To explore this topic, the scenario of a robot holding a presentation to a human audience is used, where the robot has to process multimodal feedback from the human in order to adapt the presentation to the human's level of understanding.
