   Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the role and influence of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in European Union negotiations - to what extent the Presidency can actually exert leadership and to what extent the office-holder can advance national priorities. The study addresses these questions by examining the activities and achievements of the Spanish, Italian, Irish and Dutch presidencies in the prenegotiation and negotiation processes in the intergovernmental conference (IGC) 1996-97, which resulted in the Amsterdam Treaty.    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to analyse power structures and processes of exclusion between Swedes and immigrants in Örebro. The study applies a monopolistic approach to show that Swedes exclude immigrants to maintain a dominant power position. Exclusion is understood as a process resulting from asymmetric power relations.    Sammanfattning : At the centre of this study lies the question of how research-related media texts contribute to the social construction of sex and gender conceptions when they use research, either as a main source, or to support or comment on specific issues and statements, from the political arena, for example. The principal aim of the study has been to analyze and problematize the ways in which different types of newspapers, genres and editorial sections reproduce, or contribute to change, in existing gender discourses.
