  2. 7. Population ecology of perch (Perca fluviatilis) in boreal lakes

    Författare :Arne Linløkken; Eva Bergman; Larry Greenberg; Anders Hargeby; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; perch; growth; size; mortality; temperature; acidification; density; roach; competition; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : I studied the effects of temperature, pH, competition and predation on Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) in 30 lakes in Norway during 1981-2001. The study lakes were situated in two different areas in southern Norway; four lakes in Aust-Agder county in southernmost Norway were explored during 1981-1984 and 26 lakes in Hedmark county in south-eastern Norway were investigated during 1992-2001. 3. 8. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer

    Författare :Bedrich Vitak; Ingvar Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Mammography; Breast neoplasm; Breast cancer screening; Interval breast cancer; Metastasis; Mortality; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. 4. 9. Infant and child mortality in Eritrea : levels, trends, and determinants

    Författare :Gebremariam Woldemicael; Basia Zaba; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :demografi; Demography;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has three main objectives: first, to estimate age-specific levels, age patterns and period trends in early mortality at national and sub-national levels in Eritrea; second, to investigate the major possible determinants of infant and child mortality; and third to discuss implications of the main findings for health policy and future research directions.The data used for this study come from the 1995 Eritrea Demographic and Health Survey of 5,469 households and 5,054 women in the reproductive age span. 5. 10. A new family of survival functions and a method for measuring risk inequalities

    Författare :Harald Hannerz; Statistiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mortality law; survival analysis; risk inequalities; excess fraction; Mortality law; survival analysis; risk inequalities; excess fraction;

    Sammanfattning : The present compilation thesis is divided into two sections, one for each of two separate methodological issues: reduction of random errors in mortality estimates and offsetting random variation related bias in data generated estimators of risk inequalities. Summary of section A In regard to the first issue a new family of survival functions is proposed. LÄS MER
