Sammanfattning : By exploring identity processes during women’s life course, this study aims at broadening the theoretical framework concerning the intersection of age and gender. Two fundamental questions are posed: (1) how do identity processes appear when an age perspective is added, and (2) how can women’s narratives about old age be understood from the social psychological identity perspective? 3. "Är han en jätte, nej han är liten, en bebis" : Ålderskategorisering i förskolan
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to explore the meaning of age in the social world of preschool and age as a discursive resource in daily practices. In relation to this aim, the following specific research questions are raised: (i) How do preschool children practice age categories and what interactional goals are achieved through categorical work in interaction with other children and with teachers? (ii) In what ways is the institutional order of preschool handled and produced through the participants' categorical work? (iii) How and in what ways are age categories discursive resources in the participants' socialization practices? Data were generated through a year of field work during which participant observation was carried out among a group of preschool children aged 3–5 years. LÄS MER

Despite the development of social services in the Scandinavian countries being guided by the principles of universalism and equality, adults in need of care have different rights to support depending on their current age and at which age disability occurs. 5. Stoutwear and the Discourses of Disorder : Constructing the Fat, Female Body in American Fashion in the Age of Standardization, 1915-1930
Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines how fashion media discourses created the conditions through which the fat, female body was both known and constructed within the context of the early large-size garment industry in the United States, or what between the years 1915 and 1930 was known as “stoutwear.” Drawing on a wide array of media sources, including women’s and fashion magazines, trade journals, catalogs and style guides, and employing Michel Foucault’s archaeological method, the dissertation examines the productive nature of fashion discourse in the construction and constitution of the fleshy body, or how the discourses of stoutwear brought order to the disorderly, fat, female body.
