11. Studies on the role of Dally-like during Drosophila development
Sammanfattning : A cell is constantly subjected to cues from its surroundings in the form of signalling molecules e.g. Wingless (Wg), Insulin-like growth factor (IGF). As a result, important decisions regarding processes like growth, division, differentiation or migration are made. LÄS MER
12. IgM and Complement in Regulation of Antibody Responses
Sammanfattning : Animals deficient in complement components C1q, C4, C3, and CR1/2 have severely impaired antibody responses. C1q is primarily activated by antibody-antigen complexes. Antigen-specific IgM in complex with an antigen is able to enhance the antibody response against that antigen. This is dependent on the ability of IgM to activate complement. LÄS MER
13. Effects of ethanol on NMDA receptor-mediated functions in primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells
Sammanfattning : Primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells were used to investigate the effects of acute and chronic exposure of ethanol on NMDA receptor functions and to examine the possible sites of interaction between ethanol and the NMDA receptor. Activation of NMDA receptors induced elevation of free cytoplasmic Ca2+, Ca2+ influx, activation of protein kinase C and neurotoxicity. LÄS MER
14. Characterising Halogen Bonding in a Cooperative Model System
Sammanfattning : Non-covalent interactions are the main driving factor for secondary structure formation of biomacromolecules and are of enormous importance for the direction of molecular recognition events, for example those of importance for drug discovery. Profound understanding of these interactions is of vital importance to achieve high affinity and selectivity of a ligand to a chosen target. LÄS MER
15. Anaesthetics and the blood vessel wall. Actions of propofol and sevoflurane on sympathetic and endothelial control of smooth muscle function
Sammanfattning : The anaesthetics we use today dose-dependently decrease the mean arterial pressure partly due to direct or indirect effects on the blood vessels. In the present thesis human omental arteries and veins and rat femoral arteries were investigated in vitro concerning the effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol and the volatile anaesthetic sevoflurane on the function of the perivascular sympathetic nerves and the endothelial cells.
