  1. 1. Characterization of Aeromonas, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Lactobacillus spontaneously growing to high numbers in milk, minced meat, fish or cheese

    Författare :Anne-Marie Lindberg; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Food Spoilage; Lactobacillus; Bacillus; Pseudomonas; Aeromonas; Enterobacteriaceae; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The spoilage flora of refrigerated raw and pasteurized milk was classified and identified by numerical phenotypic analysis. Isolations of bacteria were made at a defined spoilage stage, when the total aerobic count was 106-107 cfu per ml. The secondary flora of ripened Swedish and Norwegian cheeses was investigated by numerical analysis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The intestinal epithelium of salmonids : transepithelial transport, barrier function and bacterial interactions

    Författare :Fredrik Jutfelt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Epithelial barrier function; smoltification; cortisol; osmoregulation; Aeromonas salmonicida; Atlantic salmon; rainbow trout; bacterial translocation; intestine; Ussing chamber; vegetable lipids;

    Sammanfattning : The salmonid intestinal epithelium is important for growth and health of the fish. The epithelium is exposed to a multitude of internal and external factors that can influence its function. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Health hazards associated with dissemination of bacterial strains in waste water recycling

    Författare :Mokhlasur Rahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Treated waste effluents with low levels of chemical and microbiological contents are used for domestic, industrial, agricultural and aquacultural purposes worldwide, and it is estimated that one tenth or more of the world’s population consume food produced through irrigation with wastewater. Treated hospital waste effluents may contain pathogenic and drug resistant bacteria, which constitutes the most dangerous single risk factor for dissemination of pathogenic and drug resistant organisms to the environment. 4. 4. On the Origins of mobile Antibiotic Resistance Genes : A comparative genomics approach

    Författare :Stefan Ebmeyer; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; comparative genomics; bacterial genomics; antibiotic resistance genes;

    Sammanfattning : Mobile antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), transferable between bacterial cells, are major contributors to the antibiotic resistance crisis we are facing today. From which organisms pathogens acquired these genes is mostly unknown, yet knowledge about their origin is needed in order to limit the emergence and spread of novel ARGs in the future. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functional Studies of Some Immune Relevant Genes in a Crustacean

    Författare :Haipeng Liu; Kenneth Söderhäll; Irene Söderhäll; Lage Cerenius; Ingrid Faye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anti-LPS factor; crayfish; hemocyte; innate immunity; melanization; phenoloxidase; RNA interference; WSSV; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The freshwater crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, mounts a strong innate immune response against microbes such as viruses and bacteria. In this thesis, a novel RNA interference (RNAi) method mediated with histone H2A was developed and applied in crayfish hematopoietic tissue cell cultures for gene functional studies. LÄS MER
