  1. 1. Physiological responses to acute physical and psychosocial stress- relation to aerobic capacity and exercise training

    Författare :Elin Arvidsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute stress; exercise training; aerobic capacity; physiological responses;

    Sammanfattning : Exercise training is an effective method to promote health and to prevent development of disease. Both physical and mental health have been shown to benefit from exercise training. It has also been speculated that physical exercise might affect responses to acute psychosocial stress. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Rehabilitation for improved cognition in stress-related exhaustion : cognitive, neural and clinical perspectives

    Författare :Hanna Malmberg Gavelin; Anna Stigsdotter Neely; Carl-Johan Boraxbekk; Ingibjörg Jonsdottir; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; stress rehabilitation; burnout; exhaustion disorder; cognitive training; aerobic training; klinisk psykologi; Clinical Psychology;

    Sammanfattning : Stress-related exhaustion disorder (ED) has been associated with concomitant cognitive impairment, perceived by patients to have large impact on everyday life. However, little is known about how to address cognition in stress rehabilitation and how this could influence stress recovery over time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Community-based osteoporosis prevention: Physical activity in relation to bone density, fall prevention, and the effect of training programmes : The Vadstena Osteoporosis Prevention Project

    Författare :Ann-Charlotte Grahn Kronhed; Margareta Möller; Toomas Timpka; Leif Svanström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vadstena Osteoporosis Prevention Project VOPP ; weight-bearing training study; physical activity; training programmes; elderly; forearm bone mineral density BMD ; balance-training; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on studies of the ten-year community-based intervention programme entitled, the Vadstena Osteoporosis Prevention Project (VOPP). The specific aims of the research were to describe the effects of physical activity and training programmes on bone mass and balance performance in adults, to determine whether a fall risk prevention programme could motivate personal actions among the elderly, to ascertain whether the intervention programme could reduce the incidence of forearm and hip fractures. 4. 4. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    Författare :Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise; aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training. The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria. 5. 5. Efficiency of aerobic exercise training in women and men with chronic heart failure

    Författare :Raija Tyni-Lenné; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aerobic exercise training; blood lactate; chronic heart failure; exercise capacity; gender; health-related quality of life; physical training; plasma norepinephrine; rehabilitation; skeletal muscle; walking performance;

    Sammanfattning : The syndrome of heart failure is one of the major public health problems in many countries. Despite advances in pharmacological therapy, patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) are characterized by exercise intolerance and a reduced health-related quality of life. LÄS MER
