1. Adrenocortical tumors : Diagnosis, growth regulation and treatment
Sammanfattning : Monoclonal antibodies generated by immunization with human adrenocortical cells reacted with the normal adrenal cortex, adrenocortical adenomas and carcinomas, but failed to stain a variety of normal tissues, renal cell carcinoma, and pheocromocytomas. The antibodies can be used to improve histological diagnosis and characterization of human adrenal lesions, and possibly for scintigraphic detection. LÄS MER
2. Regulation of steroidogenesis : cAMP-dependent transcription in adrenocortical cells
Sammanfattning : Optimal steroid hormone output from the adrenal cortex depends on the peptide hormone ACTH which elicits its effect by increasing the intracellular levels of the second messenger cAMP, and a subsequent activation of the cAMP-dependent protein kinase. An important aspect of ACTH action is the ability of this hormone to increase transcription of a group of genes that encodes the steroid hydroxylases, enzymes that catalyze the conversion of cholesterol to biologically active steroids. 3. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE
Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. 4. Microarray Based Gene Expression Analysis in Cancer Research
Sammanfattning : Biotechnological inventions during the 20th century have resulted in a wide range of approaches for explorations in the functional genomics field. Microarray technology is one of the recent advances which have provided us with snapshots of which genes are expressed in cells of various tissues and diseases. LÄS MER
5. Staphylococcus aureus alpha-toxin : natural fragments and effects on intestinal epithelial cells
Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus aureus is a human pathogen, commonly found in healthy humans as a part of normal flora. alpha-toxin is thought to be largely responsible for the pathogenesis of the bacterium. LÄS MER
