1. Aspects of MEN1 Tumorigenesis in Endocrine Pancreas and Adrenal Glands
Sammanfattning : Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 1 (MEN1) is an autosomal dominantly inherited disease, which is described as an association of tumors mainly in endocrine organs, including pancreas and adrenal glands. Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are the most common cause of death in MEN1 patients. LÄS MER
2. Tumors of the adrenal glands : genetic and diagnostic aspects
Sammanfattning : Adrenal tumors have varying clinical presentation, malignancy rates and patient morbidity. Adrenal cortical carcinomas (ACCs) are malignant tumors originating from the adrenal cortex. LÄS MER
3. Endocrine studies in stroke patients
Sammanfattning : There are a number of links between the endocrine system and the nervous system. In this study, the impact of ischemic stroke on the endocrine system was investigated. Elderly volunteers were studied because data regarding the influence of advanced age on endocrine parameters were lacking. LÄS MER
4. Studies on stress in African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) : Stress associated cortisol and prolactin levels, lymphocyte modulation and pathological changes in adrenal cortex, stomach and hippocampus in the African green monkey (C. aethiops)
Sammanfattning : African green monkeys (AGMs) are highly susceptible to captivity-induced stress. An investigation of spontaneous deaths of laboratory confined AGMs at the Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi, Kenya over a period of 7.5 years documented mild to severe gastric mucosal erosions and ulcers in 83 of 260 (32%) necropsies. 5. Aspects of Gene Expression Profiling in Disease and Health
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to in various ways explore protein expression in human normal tissue and in cancer and to apply that knowledge in biomarker discovery. In Paper I the prognostic significance of RNA-binding motif protein 3 (RBM3) is explored in malignant melanoma. LÄS MER
