    Sammanfattning : Adolescent pregnancy has been associated with adverse health and social outcomes, but it has also been favorably viewed as a pathway to adulthood. In Ecuador, where 20% of girls aged between 15-19 years get pregnant, the adolescent fertility rate has increased and inequalities between adolescent girls from different educational, socio-economic levels and geographical regions are prominent: 43% of illiterate adolescents become pregnant compared to 11% with secondary education.     Sammanfattning : The overall aims of the study were to determine the prevalence of anaemia in women of reproductive age and to investigate the underlying causes, as well as assess the effectiveness of antenatal care (ANC) interventions for anaemia prevention.     Sammanfattning : The objectives of the thesis was to explore partner violence during pregnancy in Nicaragua – its prevalence and characteristics, how women perceive, understand and cope with it, its association with specific child outcomes such as low birth weight (LBW), small for gestational age (SGA) and preterm birth, and possible pathways. The specific objectives were to: i) explore maternity care practices and support for adolescent mothers during their stay in the maternity unit; ii) study the postpartum support to adolescent mothers and their newborns at home by families, communities and health professionals; iii) explore adolescents' views regarding risky sexual behaviour; iv) explore adolescent boys' views on adolescent pregnancy and parenthood; v) explore health care staff provision of adolescent sexual and reproductive health care services in Swaziland.
