  2. 2. Radiotherapy for head and neck cancer : costs and benefits of time, dose and volume

    Författare :Karin Söderström; Björn Zackrisson; Werner Dubrowsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; adjuvant treatment; accelerated fractionation; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Sammanfattning : Background In the treatment of head and neck cancers (HNCs), radiotherapy (RT) has the advantage of organ preservation compared to surgery. However, treatment toxicities associated with RT can affect important functions for everyday life, both in the acute and late stage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Experimental and population-based studies on colorectal cancer - Thymidine phosphorylase as a potential biomarker

    Författare :Elinor Bexe-Lindskog; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; thymidine phosphorylase; chemotherapy; adjuvant; biological markers; prognosis; practice guidelines; radiotherapy;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies, and the only reliable treatment option for cure is surgery. Method: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to analyze the gene expression of the enzyme thymidine phosphorylase (TP), which was related to prognostic factors (paper I, n=254), evaluated as a predictive factor (paper III, n=125), and assessed by change of treatment (paper II, n=28). 4. 4. Long-term side effects of radiotherapy in breast cancer : studies in ischemic heart disease and lung cancer

    Författare :Anna-Karin Wennstig; Malin Sund; Carl Blomqvist; Greger Nilsson; Per Karlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :breast cancer; radiotherapy; long-term side effects; ischemic heart disease; lung cancer; survivorship; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Due to early detection and advances in adjuvant therapies, most women diagnosed with early BC will be cured of their disease, and issues of survivorship are of great importance. LÄS MER

    Författare :Michael Dahlberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Rectal cancer; surgery; preoperative radiotherapy; local recurrence; survival; adverse effects; cost-effectiveness; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : In rectal cancer, local failure is one of the principle causes of morbidity and mortality. The use of radiotherapy as an adjuvant treatment in resectable rectal cancer is extensively studied in order to lower unacceptably high local failure rates. LÄS MER
