1. Experimental and analytical study of thermal mixing at reactor conditions
Sammanfattning : High-cycle thermal fatigue due to turbulent mixing of streams at distinct temperatures is an interdisciplinary issue affecting safety and life extension of existing reactors together with the design of new reactors. It is challenging to model damage and thermal loads arising from the above mixing. LÄS MER
2. Wave Splitting in Direct and Inverse Scattering Problems
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is on the use of wave splitting in electromagnetic direct and inverse scattering problems. Wave splitting offers a decomposition of wave fields into appropriate input and output wave constituents. LÄS MER
3. Inverse Problems for Tumour Growth Models and Neural ODEs
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the application of methods and techniques from the theory of inverse problems and differential equations to study models arising in the areas of mathematical oncology and deep learning. The first problem studied is to develop methods to perform numerical simulations with full 3-dimensional brain imaging data of reaction-diffusion models for tumour growth forwards as well as backwards in time with the goal of enabling the numerical reconstruction of the source of the tumour given an image (or similar data) at a later stage in time of the tumour. 4. Internal Cooling Design Using Multiphysics Topology Optimization
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates topology optimization (TO) as a tool for designing optimal internal cooling configurations in components subjected to external hot gas streams. The work is motivated by the challenge of simultaneously considering objectives from multiple physics domains, and the rapid development of additive manufacturing (AM) in the industry, which makes it possible to realize highly complex TO designs. 5. Regularization methods for solving Cauchy problems for elliptic and degenerate elliptic equations
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we study Cauchy problems for the elliptic and degenerate elliptic equations. These problems are ill-posed. We split the boundary of the domain into two parts. On one of them, say Γ0, we have available Cauchy data and on remaining part Γ1 we introduce unknown Robin data. LÄS MER
