6. Farm to furan derivatives : Fractionation of agricultural residues and transformation of sugars to chemical building blocks
Sammanfattning : The transition of industrial production from petrochemistry to a more sustainable economy requires the use of carbon neutral, renewable feedstock, which does not compete with food and feed supplies – by-products of farming and agro-food industry offer this possibility. With a limited range of low-value applications today coupled with the need for maximal utilisation of resources, the by-products of farming can be repurposed as feedstock for biorefineries. LÄS MER
7. Use of Aqueous Slurries of Oxides for Ecocompatible Organic Synthesis
Sammanfattning : There is a continuous interest and need of developing environmentally benign synthetic routes. Increased public awareness and more rigid environmental legislation have elevated the drive towards sustainable development and ecocompatible syntheses. LÄS MER
8. Poly (butylene succinate) and poly (butylene adipate) : quantitative determination of degradation products and application as PVC plasticizers
Sammanfattning : A solid phase extraction (SPE) method was developed for simultaneous extraction of dicarboxylic acids and diols formed during hydrolysis of poly(butylene succinate), PBS, and poly(butylene adipate), PBA. The developed SPE method and subsequent GC-MS analysis were used to extract, identify and quantify low molecular weight products migrating from linear and branched poly(butylene adipate) (PBA) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) during aging in aqueous media. 9. Base-catalyzed depolymerization of kraft lignin for valuable chemical production
Sammanfattning : Lignin is one of the three predominant biopolymers that make up plants together with cellulose and hemicellulose, and it is the only plant component that is based on aromatic units. The industrial kraft pulping process generates large amounts of lignin, which is currently used to generate heat for the process. LÄS MER
10. Utilizing lignocellulose-based building blocks to develop recyclable polyesters
Sammanfattning : With the growing global population and the demand for new applications, the production of fossil-based plastics is continuously increasing. This has led to serious environmental concerns about the depletion of fossil resources, land and marine pollution, and generation of greenhouse gas emissions. LÄS MER
