  1. 1. Xenograft Rejection : A Study of Cytokine mRNA Expression in Experimental Models

    Författare :Henrik Krook; Anthony Dorling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Type 1 diabetes; Parkinson’s disease; xenotransplantation; islets; neural tissue; heart; mRNA; cytokines; rejection.; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Acute cellular xenograft rejection of ICCs triggered mRNA expression of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1b and TNF-a), Th1 associated cytokines (IL-12p40, IL-2 and IFN-g) and Th2 associated cytokines (IL-4 and IL-10). The peak values and the kinetics of the mRNA expression indicated that acute cellular xenograft rejection is enhanced by the proinflammatory response and mediated by the Th1 associated response, whereas the function of the Th2 associated response most likely is to counteract the Th1 associated cytokines and thereby inhibit bystander damage by the delayed type hypersensitivity like rejection process. 2. 2. Studies of Acute Rejection Using Contrast Agents and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Författare :Eva Penno; Håkan Ahlström; Cecilia Johnsson; Lars Johansson; Peter Leander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Radiology; Magnetic resonance imaging; contrast agents; organ transplantation; acute rejection; Radiologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Solid organ transplantation is today an established form of treatment for end-stage organ disease. Monitoring of graft function and pharmacological therapy constitutes a maze of clinical observations and histological evaluations of biopsy specimens; with the biopsy results playing a decisive role. 3. 3. Studies of Rejection in Experimental Xenotransplantation

    Författare :Tomas Lorant; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Antibodies; cell culturing; cytokines; hyaluronan; immunosuppression; mouse; rat; rejection; T lymphocytes; xenotransplantation.; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : One main hurdle to xenotransplantation, i.e. transplantation between different species, is the immunological barrier that the organ meets in the recipient. The aim of this thesis was to characterise xenogeneic rejection mechanisms by using the concordant mouse-to-rat heart transplantation model. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pancreas Transplantation: Development of Successful Preclinical Models

    Författare :Wayne John Hawthorne; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute rejection; simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant; portal venous drainage; systemic venous drainage; pancreaticoduodenal transplant; segmental pancreas transplant; duct-occlusion; autograft; Pancreas transplantation; allograft; hyperacute rejection; glucose metabolism.; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreas transplantation is today a technically successful procedure and provides an alternative to insulin injections for the treatment of Type I diabetes mellitus. This thesis was undertaken while pancreas transplantation was developing and while several fundamental questions were being asked about both endocrine and exocrine drainage of the transplanted pancreas as well as how best to diagnose and prevent rejection. 5. 5. Cellular Immune Responses to Allografts and Cytomegalovirus

    Författare :Mats Engstrand; Olle Korsgren; Gunnar Tufveson; Nils Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Transplantation; Rejection; Monitoring; Flow Cytometry; MHC; Tetramer; CMV; infection; Immunologi; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Today the immunosuppressive treatment is kept to a level were the incidence of acute rejection is below 20% within the first year after transplantation. As a consequence, a group of transplanted patients is over-immunosuppressed and at risk for infections. LÄS MER
